Think you know your kids? If you have children using social media, you need to watch this!
Coby Persin is a YouTube film maker and decided to conduct this online experiment to bring home just how dangerous it is to connect with people you don’t know on social media. The YouTube program, titled “The Dangers of Social Media (Child Predator Social Experiment),” features 21-year-old Coby Persin posing as a 15-year-old boy. Watch as he easily sets up a fake Facebook profile as part of his experiment and uses it to lure young girls. Once he has them believing he’s a charming new kid in town, he convinces them to meet with him, face to face.
His experiment was conducted with the permission of the parents of the 6 children seen in this video. In some cases, the parents participated in the actual enactment. As a parent you think you know your kids. These parents watched the whole thing unfold before their eyes and were so surprised to see how quickly their own children fell for this ruse and walked straight into a trap.
It is disturbing and quite uncomfortable to watch and it has attracted a lot of attention worldwide. Not everyone agrees with the way the experiment was put together given the shock value of it. Despite what you may think though, I’m sure most would agree, this is a powerful experiment that definitely gets you thinking. The whole point of the exercise is to educate our kids and ourselves about the very real dangers of Social Media and Child Predators. I think Coby has done a great job and I’m grateful he’s taken steps to raise our awareness on this chilling issue.
Watch the video to the end and share as much as you can to help educate our kids
